S O O J U N G

NAME: Jung Soojung
BIRTHDATE: October 24, 2014
NATIONALITY: South Korea

DISTRICT: Jongno
OCCUPATION: Currently working on her apprenticeship (teaching assistant for younger children)

background
Since the day she was born, Soojung never spent a moment of her life being lazy or laying about. Her family resided in Jongno, her parents worked at greenhouses and farms all day, and Soojung and her older sister Sooyeon were expected to follow the same, busy path that their parents did. They were told to marry in their early twenties (to a good man, that is) and work for the better of Seoul and their countries future. But growing up in farm country wasn't exactly the ideal place for people who wanted a flourishing life, however, it was simpler than some of the other districts. Soojung grew up knowing that she had to find her place, and had to diligently wait for her turn to go and find it.

Complications came along the way, and the family had to adjust to various different times of business and none. Times where it was harder to keep plants and vegetables alive and green were slightly common, then worry of having to move to another district, etc. Her father was always a worrier, and tried to plan for the future years ahead of time. It was too much, and the Jung family watched as Mr. Jung practically worried himself to death. He would, eventually due to heart problems and stress, pass away when Soojung was around the age of nine. The females he left behind had to force themselves to move on, promising to always remember their father, and said, loving husband.

Her mother threw herself into her work to distract herself, as the sisters continued with school and planning on what they wanted to do with work. The older woman fought the idea of them working and living on the farm they were born on, and encouraged them to move somewhere else when they got to the age. When it came time for Sooyeon to find work, the other two were supportive of what she chose, and Soojung remembers leaving all sorts of letters and notes in her sisters luggage as she went off for an apprenticeship.

After Sooyeon left, the youngest Jung focused on school. Finding herself excelling rather well, keeping up pace with everyone else, making a friend or two. She also found what she wanted to do - teaching. So she worked as hard as she could, and when she decided to pursue a teaching apprenticeship, her mother was overjoyed. Plans were arranged that Soojung would remain at the farm, and just travel to Nowon during the day.

It's life, as Soojung believes, and she doesn't really know what's lying in the other districts beyond Jongno. However, it isn't like she hasn't really been outside of her home. Soojung's visits were just limited to the destinations she had no other choice but to arrive in (like going to the hospital for supplies, and school in Nowon). Her mother and herself come up with tales of fantasy, sometimes; how life is in the other districts they're not too used to, and what life would be like without the effects of radiation. To now, she's still living with her mother, keeping in contact with Sooyeon as much as possible, and waiting to finish her apprenticeship.

mutation/illness

Achromatopsia (Rod Monochromatism): Soojung cannot see in color, and cannot adjust to bright lights normally and suffers from day blindness without proper lenses or filters. She uses amber-filter contacts; supplied by doctors, as well as low dose prescription.

Anemia: Manageable, and is being treated with medicine.
